Simulation Experiment of BCI Based on Imagined Speech EEG Decoding

چکیده
Brain Computer Interface (BCI) can help patients of neuromuscular diseases restore parts of the movement and communication abilities that they have lost. Most of BCIs rely on mapping brain activities to device instructions, but limited number of brain activities decides the limited abilities of BCIs. To deal with the problem of limited ablility of BCI, this paper verified the feasibility of constructing BCI based on decoding imagined speech electroencephalography (EEG). As sentences decoded from EEG can have rich meanings, BCIs based on EEG decoding can achieve numerous control instructions. By combining a modified EEG feature extraction mehtod with connectionist temporal classification (CTC), this paper simulated decoding imagined speech EEG using synthetic EEG data without help of speech signal. The performance of decoding model over synthetic data to a certain extent demonstrated the feasibility of constructing BCI based on imagined speech brain signal.

Vowel Imagery Decoding toward Silent Speech BCI Using Extreme Learning Machine with Electroencephalogram
The purpose of this study is to classify EEG data on imagined speech in a single trial. We recorded EEG data while five subjects imagined different vowels, /a/, /e/, /i/, /o/, and /u/. We divided each single trial dataset into thirty segments and extracted features (mean, variance, standard deviation, and skewness) from all segments. To reduce the dimension of the feature vector, we applied a f...
متن کاملEEG-Based Discrimination of Imagined Speech Phonemes
This paper reports positive results for classifying imagined phonemes on the basis of EEG signals. Subjects generated in imagination five types of phonemes that differ in their primary manner of vocal articulation during overt speech production (jaw, tongue, nasal, lips and fricative). Naive Bayes and linear discriminant analysis classification methods were applied to EEG signals that were reco...

This article evaluates two ways of characterization of EEG signals for classification of activity and linguistic inactivity, essential preprocess for the development of brain-computer interfaces (BCI) based on imagined speech. The first characterization used the calculation of the teager energy based on the discrete wavelet transform (DWT). The second characterization was based on the calculati...
متن کاملInferring imagined speech using EEG signals: a new approach using Riemannian manifold features.
OBJECTIVE In this paper, we investigate the suitability of imagined speech for brain-computer interface (BCI) applications. APPROACH A novel method based on covariance matrix descriptors, which lie in Riemannian manifold, and the relevance vector machines classifier is proposed. The method is applied on electroencephalographic (EEG) signals and tested in multiple subjects. MAIN RESULTS The ...
متن کاملP65: Speech Recognition Based on Bbrain Signals by the Quantum Support Vector Machine for Inflammatory Patient ALS
People communicate with each other by exchanging verbal and visual expressions. However, paralyzed patients with various neurological diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and cerebral ischemia have difficulties in daily communications because they cannot control their body voluntarily. In this context, brain-computer interface (BCI) has been studied as a tool of communication for thes...
